LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), April 2 (SeeNews) – Slovenia’s insurer Adriatic Slovenica (AS), a subsidiary of financial services provider KD Group, said it has formed a strategic partnership with local healthcare blockchain startup Iryo with the main goal of offering patients better and safer access to their health records.
“Due to technological progress in the field of healthcare services and health insurance, major changes have been introduced. Healthcare lags behind in digital development compared to other industries, which is why we wish to be the frontrunners or even co-creators of advancements and change,” Gabrijel Skof, president of the AS management board, is quoted saying in a statement issued on Friday.
“In Iryo, we have found an appropriate strategic partner who shares our views on the patient experience when accessing healthcare services. We also share a view that there’s a need for a paradigm shift in the area of patients’ data protection and ownership,” Skof noted.
AS remains one of the most important providers of supplementary health insurance in Slovenia. It is the first insurance company in the country to have its own established specialist clinic Zdravje AS, which provides healthcare diagnosis services, physiotherapy and special examinations, to step into the market of healthcare services provision.
The strategic partnership with Iryo offers new possibilities in the development field of executing healthcare services, since both companies wish to establish a private medical centre with a wide array of healthcare and health-related services available, AS said.
Iryo, established by the tech company from Kranj called 3fs, was created with a vision to globally change user experience in healthcare. Using blockchain technology, patients will become key decision-makers on access and insight into their own medical record, which will be managed using an app on their mobile phone.
The Slovenian government included Iryo in its latest government report on projects contributing towards sustainable development.
Adriatic Slovenica provides insurance through non-life, life, pension and health insurances in Slovenia and in Croatia through its branch.
