Living-in.eu reaches 100 signatories

The Deputy-Mayor of Budapest, Mr Gábor Kerpel-Fronius, joined today’s Living-in.eu plenary meeting to announce the city’s signature of the Join Boost Sustain declaration, making it the 100th signatory of the Living-in.eu movement.

The Living-in.eu movement celebrated its 100th signatory today. With the addition of Budapest, Living-in.EU now has 100 signatories representing cities, regions, and Member States which have pledged to team up and work together to accelerate the digital transformation the European way.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy-Mayor of Budapest, Mr Gábor Kerpel-Fronius said: “Budapest is truly honoured to become the 100th signee of this essential declaration, which aims to boost sustainable digital transformation in cities and communities across the EU. We share our predecessors’ aspiration to advance liveability by smart and sustainable means to provide the capability of resistance against the potential challenges of tomorrow.”

The Living-in.EU movement was launched under the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in December 2019 in Oulu, Finland, by the founding cities Oulu and Porto, Euro CitiesOASCEnoLL, supported by the Commission and the European Committee of the Regions.

Its members join forces to boost sustainable digital transformation in cities and communities in the EU. They work on approaches to smart urban mobility, energy efficiency, sustainable housing, digital public services, and civic-led governance, amongst others, aiming at a large-scale uptake and upscale of interoperable and open digital solutions. Companies, research institutes, civil society organisations, and non-EU cities can also join Living-in.EU as supporters.

Commissioner Thierry Breton will meet a representative group of EU mayors and regional leaders from the Living-in.eu and the Intelligent Cities Challenge on the 2nd of December afternoon, for a dialogue on Smart, Green and Resilient Cities and Communities. Mayors are welcome to join in person in Brussels or online, by registering here.
